8 - 53) A uniform disk, such as a record turnatble, turns at 8.0 rev/s around a frictionless spindle. A nonrotating rod, of the same mass as the disk and length equal to the disk's diameter, is dropped onto the freely spinning disk. They both turn around the spindle with their centers superposed, Fig. 8-39. What is the angular velocity in rev/x of the combination?

8 - 54) A 4.5-m-diameter merry-go-round is rotating freely with an angular velocity of 0.80rad/s. Its total moment of inertia is 1750kgm^2. Four people standing on the ground, each of mass 65 kg, suddenly step onto the edge of the merry-go-round. What is the angular velocity of the merry-go-round now? Waht if people were on it initially and then jumped off in a radial direction?
